Sometimes, when there is much to express, I find a freestyle poem works best...
Rainy Night on the Black Pearl

Grey clouds hover over her black sails –
A cool mist encircles her masts –
Her angel shimmers amidst the raindrops –
The Black Pearl slumbers on the sea –
A great lady rests from her day’s toil.
The sea is rich dark blue, light winds –
Soft rain hits her deck, dripping gently
Off cloth sails, wrapped like cocoons –
Secured tight – if winds would blow –
But not tonight – the ship rests content.
The Pearl rocks in her sea cradle –
Her wheel is tied, lines made taut –
Her anchor dropped to murky depths –
A strong hold to the deep sea’s floor.
Waves caress the hull, like a lover’s touch.
Her cannon stand guard, quiet, yet ready
To show her might – but tonight is peace –
A sea gull calls overhead – looking for his mate –
Peace – a dolphin splashes off her bow –
The Black Pearl creaks – but slumbers on.
Her wood is old, sea salt in every plank –
But care and pride have made her a beauty –
The wheel polished, the rails varnished,
The seams sealed tight, the lines strong –
Her angel holds a dove – drinking in the rain.
Lanterns glow from misty decks –
Making the Pearl’s presence known –
To give fair warning – “I am here –
Sleeping on the sea for the night –
Give me room – I’m a tired lady.”
But listen – the sound of laughter –
A voice, deep and strong – and then
A lighter voice – the two combine
Forming the pleasant sound of joy
Between a man and a woman.
The Captain and his love –
Warm and dry, in a soft-lit cabin –
Enjoy the peace and solace
Of a rainy evening on their ship –
The Black Pearl – their home.
Resting from a work-filled day –
Charts prepared – brass polished –
Entries in the Captain’s log –
Supplies stacked, sails repaired –
Dinner made – lamps filled with oil.
A couple – so in love – sharing tasks –
Find joy beyond their wildest dreams –
A deep respect for their grand ship –
Her strength, her courage – how her
Power can be harnessed – then set free.
Inside the cabin, lamps glow – like their love –
The Captain – holds a glass of wine –
Looks longingly at his lady fair –
She smiles – an all-knowing smile –
Rain hits upon the windows’ glass.
His Captain’s log is quickly closed –
Her sewing left upon his desk –
The cat meows – looks for his bed –
Curling up, and purrs – content –
Upon the Captain’s coat – his favorite place.
Covers thrown upon the floor –
The Pearl might think a storm has struck –
The Captain’s leather tossed by the desk –
His lady’s silk draped on a stool -
Candles burn white hot – flicker, melt into the night.
The seas churn through the tempest storm –
Ever moving, waves and swells –
Then peace, soft gentle whispers –
Vows of eternal tender love –
And still the rain falls gently on the deck.
All is quiet – the sea gull finds his mate –
The crow’s nest makes a cozy bed.
Two lovers rest in passion’s embrace –
Just like their ship that rides the sea –
A rainy night on the Black Pearl…
