Sun fell and twilight shimmered,
Moon rose and stars glimmered.
Owl hoot and raven cry
Scared so much I felt I'd die.
Forest swayed and wind moaned,
When something ahead of me rose and groaned.
Turning to run, I screamed in fear,
Hot breath on my neck, Death was drawing near.
Feet running, leaves churning the air,
I dodge the birches, their bark so fair.
Light ahead, shining brightly,
The beast behind, upon me - but slightly.
Howls of rage, black wings beat close,
The house door was open, the fog rose.
Steps beneath feet, door handle grasped,
Slamming it shut, I fell with a gasp.
Peering out the window, from whence I'd came,
I saw a great shadow, of a great dane.
Heart beating fast, I started to laugh,
Such a fright for nothing, made me feel daft.
