Popcorn is good except when it's stale,
Unless it's the stuff that's supposed to be stale
In the long polyethlene bags squat and full,
The kind Ben Franklin and Woolworth's used to sell.
Things don't taste the same as they do at age five,
Six or seven - those innocent ages. At five
The face value of any ad on TV
Is assessed and taken quite seriously.
The cereal made out of oats, lecithin,
Preservatives and sugar, the shapes it comes in,
The box and the prize inside...
... same as it ever was,
Invested with wonder once more, though it never was
New. Just the gimmick. I'll admit it is fun
Though no cliche's new that is under the sun.
