As Miss Marple walked away from the edge of the pond, she heard snickering from Jessie Dodd. Such an unflattering noise for a young lady to make, but then again, how much of a lady was Jessie?
Something, however, was wrong. Miss Marple felt a coolness begin to climb up her back--she turned around and saw that there was a strand of yarn between her and Jessie. Somehow the young floozy had gotten hold of an end of the yarn in Miss Marple's sweater and had begun to pull.
Pulling the threads and snickering, Miss Marple did not know which was worse. She shrug out of the sweater; it was old and was going to go to the next jumble sale anyway. Perhaps the cat that Calliope had pulled from the water could use it for kneading.
