| From the Dawn Treader to the Tower of Mushrooms |

Nenuvariel the Dryad finished her shift on the Dawn Treader ride. The Dawn Treader was at the extreme edge of the Fantasy Faire Complex. The Faire goers flocked to the attractive Golden Dome that marked the entertainment complex but Nenuvariel had been afraid that most beings would not make it out to the palm trees at the far side of the complex. Nenuvariel was pleasantly surprised to discover that many beings did find their way to the side of the Dawn Treader. She was a very attractive ship and beings of all ages were naturally drawn to her.
Nenuvariel loved being on the Dawn Treader and she loved looking at the reflection of the palm trees in the water. She found the palm trees very alien looking; she had never seen their like in Narnia. But it was not normal for a dryad to stand by her tree, paste a smile on her face, and wave at faire-goers for eight hours a day.
A wise centaur watched Nenuvariel wave at some children to welcome them to the Dawn Treader.
The children gasped when Nenuvariel waved at them and then they giggled. "Can we go on the ship?" the older child asked their parents.
The husband leaned over to his wife. "We could sit on the ship, if you wanted."
The wife brightened immediately. "What an excellent idea! Let's go!"
So the family went on the Dawn Treader.
The centaur leaned over to Nenuvariel, "Your shift is up."
"Good, my face aches," Nenuvariel groused.
"Maybe you should smile more often; then you would not find this such a hard task."
"I am a dryad. Decorum is important to us."
"As you wish." The centaur trotted off to relieve the next tired dryad.
Nenuvariel left the entertainment complex and headed towards the vendor area. Smiling and waving had made her hungry.
She passed by the Golden Biscuit. She could get Narnian food back home.
Then she spied the Tower of Mushrooms. When Nenuvariel was in Narnia she was a dryad but Nenuvariel had also traveled outside of Narnia. The sister worlds of Narnia and Middle Earth touched one another at several points, such as at Calormen/Kalorme, and at those points it was possible to move between Narnia and Middle Earth. When Nenuvariel was in Middle Earth she was an Elf, and right now she felt like some good Elvish food.
Nenuvariel headed off to the Tower of Mushrooms Dining Hall. Nenuvariel stopped at a sign outside the door and smiled to herself. The sign said:
"The Tower of Mushrooms Dining Hall,
Serving the finest food in the 4th Age of Middle Earth."
She had heard of the Tower of Mushrooms in the Undertowers at the edge of the Tower Hills. It was run by hobbits. How could hobbit food compare to the ecstasies of good Elvish cooking?
Nenuvariel stepped in to the Tower of Mushrooms. The establishment was crowded. There were short-statured hobbits, giant Ents, loud dwarves from Middle Earth and equally loud dwarfs from Narnia, dragon-tamers, talking dragons, and everything in between.
Nenuvariel was escorted to a table which appeared to have been made by many mushrooms that had grown together. Her chair also looked like a mushroom. A hobbit waitress quickly appeared at her side and handed her a menu that had been made from dried mushrooms.
"Welcome to the Tower of Mushrooms! I will let you look at the menu and then I will be back."
Then the waitress was gone.
So Nenuvariel perused the menu. She was pleased to see that Elvish fruits were described as "distilled sunshine" that were "as sweet as wildberries and richer than the tended fruits of the garden" and it was nice to see some less well known Elven dishes, such as "Elven venison soup" and "Elven Goose and Mushrooms". But then her eyes saw the description of lembas. How could hobbits suggest that one piece of lembas was not enough to feed a grown Elf or Man? What nonesense! The little whippersnappers were probably just bragging about how much lembas they could eat. There was no way a little hobbit could really eat more than one piece of lembas.
Then Nenuvariel heard a hobbitish voice say, "How marvellous!"
Nenuvariel looked over the tops of the counters and saw a round, short, hobbit clap his hands in delight as his food came. The little hobbit had ordered a lembas sandwich which alternated layers of lembas with Bree cheese, Menel mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, and sausages.
Nenuvariel shook her head in wonder as the sympathetic waitress handed her a cup of miruvor.
"You look like you need this," the waitress said.
"Thank you, the miruvor is medicinal; But there is no way that hobbit will finish that giant lembas sandwich," Nenvuariel replied.
"Perhaps, but then he will have some nice leftovers. Were you ready to order?"
Nenuvariel nodded. She had considered trying out one of the many hobbit dishes but in the end she said, "I would like the Grey Havens Fish Platter with baked clams."
"Anything for afters?"
"I would like the Elven Fruit and Nut Platter on Elven Bread."
The waitress smiled. "I see you have a certain theme here. Would you like some Elven honey with your Elven fruit and nut and bread platter?"
"Yes, I would."
"Anything else?"
"That will be enough for now."
"The food will be ready shortly."
Nenuvariel nodded and sat back to watch the other faire-goers at the restaurant. But before she could look around her she heard a commotion in the center of the restaurant. A winged dragon was slowly making its way to the center of the restaurant. "Pardon me," the dragon would say as it accidentally trod on someone's foot, and "I am so sorry. Please forgive me."
When the dragon finally reached the center of the restaurant, Elanor, the owner of the restaurant said, "Today I am pleased to announce that we have a Fantasy Faire special. Our lovely dragon friend is here to show us how her technique on dragon-roasted meats. Please enjoy. There will be free samples after the show." Elanor bowed and left the dragon in center stage.
"I know you have all heard terrible things about dragons, but not all of us are evil creatures. We can be very useful in the kitchen. Dragon-roasting imparts a special flavor to the meat. I will show you how a dragon can quickly and efficiently roast meats and you can sample dragon-roasted and non-dragon-roasted meats afterwards. Thank you for your kind attention." Then the dragon proceeded with the demonstration.
After Nenuvariel sampled the dragon-roasted pieces of mutton and beef (the dragon-roasting did impart an excellent flavor to the meat), her food was ready. Nenuvariel savored the wonders of Elven food in the midst of a hobbit restaurant. It was good to eat familiar food so far from home. And what a treat to try dragon-roasted mutton and beef! It was a good day to be at the fantasy faire.
