*grins*
We've got a lot of scifi writing going on here. Aside from the novels themselves, there are short stories to be found in Zone SciFi where people talk scifi, and also there are multiple stories there to jump in with little to no commitment. It's a great place.
Another place you might find things of interest is our anthology novel, Short Cuts, which is between what you see in Zone SciFi and a regular novel. There you can write your own story, with others or alone, whichever you choose, in any genre. Short Cuts has no specific genre, so YOU can do what you like. *Smiles*
I'm guessing you've perused the novel listing in the SciFi genre, and you haven't quite explained what you mean "in the moment" so I'm not sure how to give a suggestion there. As you get use to the site and spend more time you might find inspiration all the same. It's friendly community.
In the meantime, might I suggest some reading? (I know, shameless plug but you don't have to DO anything, just kick back, relax and read a story) *grins*. Take a look at A Short Jump Into Darkness. You might just have fun chillin' and seeing what goes on.
