Pan Historia Novel Rating System

Pan Historia is a writers/story play community. In order for readers and writers of all ages and interests to find novels that are appropriate to them, Pan Historia has adopted a rating system similar to that used for the movies. This system is not a guarantee of content, and the ratings chosen are at the discretion of each individual novel and its members. IT IS MEANT AS A GUIDE ONLY.

At no times does Pan Historia condone the posting of graphic images in poor taste or of an explicit sexual nature.

Why Ratings?

Ratings Used at Pan Historia:

Ratings on the novels allow members to tell at a glance the type of content they might expect to find within any given novel. Parents can use this guide when monitoring what their children or teens are reading on the site. Children under the age of 17 should ask their parents permission before becoming members of Pan Historia. Pan Historia is designed as a writing site and will appeal to a primarily sophisticated membership. Other members, over 18 years of age, will find the ratings useful for determining if they are likely to be interested in a particular novel's content.

Pan Historia does not include the 'X' rating and no novel should be pornographic or in serious bad taste. If you can find it in your public library then it's considered suitable for Pan Historia as a writing community. Pan Historia does not endorse censorship. The exclusion of X-rated material is a matter of choice on behalf of the Publishers in order to make this a friendly and inclusive community.

Everyone is invited to embrace Pan Historia's novel rating system so that we are a self-monitoring community.

G - General Audience. Suitable for all ages. This signifies that the novel rated contains nothing that most parents would consider offensive for even their youngest children to read. Nudity, sex scenes, and scenes of drug use are absent; violence is minimal; snippets of dialogue may go beyond polite conversation but do not go beyond common everyday expressions.

PG - Some Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for young children. This signifies that the novel so rated may contain some material parents might not like to expose to their young children - material that will clearly need to be examined or inquired about before children are allowed to read the novel. Explicit sex scenes and scenes of drug use are absent; nudity, if present, is seen only briefly, horror and violence do not exceed moderate levels.

PG-13 - Parents are cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. This signifies that the film rated may be inappropriate for pre-teens. Parents should be especially careful about letting their younger children read this novel. Rough or persistent violence is absent; sexually-oriented nudity is generally absent; some scenes of drug use may be seen; one use of the harsher sexually derived words may be heard.

R - Stands for 'Restricted' Readers under 17 should obtain the consent of their parents to read or participate in such a novel. This signifies that the novel rated R contains some adult material. An R may be assigned due to, among other things, a novel's use of language, theme, violence, sex or its portrayal of drug use.

NC-17 - No One 17 and Under will knowingly be admitted to such a novel. This signifies that the membership of the novel believes that most American parents would feel that the novel is patently adult and that children age 17 and under should not be admitted to it or read its posts. The novel may contain explicit sex scenes, an accumulation of sexually-oriented language, or scenes of excessive violence. The NC-17 designation does not, however, signify that the rated novel is obscene or pornographic.
